Nuggets to help reduce clutter.

Imagine sitting in a room and clothes are still in the basket waiting to be fold. Your children toys are scattered throughout the floor and not to mention the sink full of dishes. You are probably feeling overwhelmed, beyond stressed and has probably loss your sense of control.

Lets talk about decluttering your space. Rather that be your home, office space or even your back yard. There are many mental health benefits when it comes to decluttering. I mean, we can look at it as a form of self care. When you declutter your space, you can feel empowered, less stressed or anxious, and gain your sense of control back.

So what is decluttering? Decluttering is removing unnecessary items from an untidy or overcrowded space. A study by UCLA found a link between a high density of household objects and elevated cortisol. Messy spaces signal the need for future cleaning, and the mental weight of knowing it needs to be addressed increases stress.

You can start decluttering your space by:

  1. Getting rid of unwanted items that no longer serves a purpose or items that have not been used in over a year.

  2. You can get your children involved, depending on their age. You can get them to gather their toys, they no longer play with. These items can be donated to your local Goodwill.

  3. You can declutter room by room or drawer by drawer. If you are feeling overwhelmed by the thought of it all, declutter in increments while taking breaks in between.
